About YSO
Our Mission
President Message
Education & Scientific Development
Education is central to YSO's activities.
YSO continues to promote professional learning through a variety of initiatives, including scientific lectures, workshops, and educational programs tailored to the needs of optometry professionals. Our commitment to knowledge sharing fosters an environment where Yemeni optometrists can engage with and learn from their peers, as well as experts in the field from the wider regional and international optometry community. This collaborative approach not only enhances the skills and competencies of our members but also contributes to the overall advancement of optometry practice in Yemen.
In addition to lectures and workshops, YSO is actively involved in developing comprehensive training programs that address current challenges in eye care. By partnering with educational institutions and professional organizations, we aim to create a robust framework for continuing education that supports lifelong learning for optometrists. These efforts are essential in ensuring that our members remain at the forefront of advancements in optometry, ultimately leading to improved patient care and outcomes.
Community Eye Health
YSO is committed to translating professional knowledge into community benefit.
In collaboration with the Department of Optometry and Vision Science at Al-Razi University, YSO participated in World Sight “Love Your Eyes.”
The program combined scientific education and community service and included presentations on:
- Causes of blindness in Yemen
- Refractive errors
- Spectacles and daily life
- The role of optometrists in primary eye care
The accompanying eye-health exhibition provided public education on eye diseases and eye protection as well as free vision screening for visitors.
The Society also uses public-awareness campaigns to promote understanding of important eye-health issues, including glaucoma, cataract, refractive problems, regular vision examinations, and preventive eye care.
Professional & International Engagement
YSO seeks to strengthen the integration of Yemeni optometry within the broader regional and international professional community.
The Society has held Country Membership with the World Council of Optometry (WCO), reinforcing its engagement with the global optometry community.
YSO representatives have also participated in regional professional activities, including the Saudi Optometry Conference, fostering professional exchange, knowledge sharing, and stronger relationships among optometry organizations in the region.
The Society actively pursues academic and professional collaborations that support optometric education, research, and scholarly communication, including cooperation with the Medical Hypothesis, Discovery & Innovation in Optometry Journal.
